Frontiers Unbound 2027: Exploring Extreme

Frontiers Unbound returns to Cluj-Napoca in 2027 for a new interdisciplinary meeting dedicated to the study of extreme environments, adaptation, resilience, and habitability.
The 2027 edition will bring together researchers from microbiology, ecology, archaeology, geoscience, planetary science, climate change research, biomolecular methods, and computational modelling. From hypersaline microbial systems and anaerobic microbial processes to alpine ecosystem change, ancient biomolecular signatures, early Earth conditions, and planetary interiors, the meeting will explore how life and environments respond to conditions at the limits.
The first confirmed speakers include Răzvan Caracaș, Katerina Douka, Carmen Gaina, Donato Giovannelli, Mioara Mandea, Florin Mușat Ramon Rosselló-Móra, and Harald Pauli, whose work reflects the broad scope of the conference: microbial diversity in extreme environments, microbial metabolism and biogeochemical processes, ecosystem dynamics under climate change, ancient molecular and chronological evidence, and planetary evolution from Earth to exoplanets.
