Coordinating science across the Institute The Scientific Council serves as the Institute’s main academic and administrative body. It brings together the Leadership team, the directors or coordinators of the Research Centers, and other academic and administrative staff. Role: research priorities · academic standards · collaborations · quality of scientific activity.
The institute’s research activity is organized in specialized centers dedicated to the study of extreme environments, biological adaptation, paleoclimate and human response.
Each Center is composed of permanent founding members and other temporary members (e.g., researchers, MA and Ph.D students) and has a coordinator/director.

Research on subterranean ecosystems, biodiversity and geological processes.

Reconstructing Earth's history and climate evolution using geochemical and isotopic methods.

Studying life in extreme environments and its potential beyond Earth.

Developing synthetic systems and biotechnological applications for extreme conditions.

Monitoring and understanding biodiversity and ecological processes in alpine environments.

Interdisciplinary research on human adaptation, stress and performance.
We welcome researchers, students and partners.
