We warmly invite you to the launch of the Romanian edition of The Belgica Expedition, published as Expediția Belgica 1897-1899, by Patrick De Deckker. We are delighted that the author will join us for the occasion.
The book tells the story of the historic Belgica expedition, the first to overwinter in Antarctic waters, and of the remarkable scientific work carried out under extreme conditions. Among the members of the expedition was the Romanian scientist Emil G. Racoviță, whose work and spirit of exploration continue to inspire the Emil G. Racoviță Institute for the Study of Life in Extreme Conditions at Babeș-Bolyai University.
This gives the volume a special resonance for the Institute, which continues and expands Racoviță’s scientific legacy through the study of life in extreme environments. The translation came to life through the joint efforts of colleagues from the Institute and Presa Universitară Clujeană, making this remarkable work available to Romanian readers.
The event will include remarks by Prof. Daniel David, Rector of Babeș-Bolyai University, Dr. habil. Ioana Meleg, Executive Director of the Emil G. Racoviță Institute, and Alina Berciu, editor at Presa Universitară Clujeană. The discussion will be moderated by Ada Blendea and will be followed by a book signing with the author.
